A Victorian Cased Artist’s Box by J Hancock & Son

A rare mahogany cased Victorian artist’s box by J Hancock & Son. The hinged lid encloses a glazed sample palette, showing the various colours, detailed ‘Diglis Ceramic Art Colour Works, Worcester’ and a large assortment of glass bottled colours all individually labelled with the relevant colours. The top tray lifts off to reveal more powdered paints in glass bottles – there are no missing paints. In the front there are two small pots, one of Rectified Spirits and the other Fat Oil. The set was used by artists at the Worcester factory for painting the porcelain. The paint box is in good condition but the bottom part of the lock is missing. It measures 31cm wide.
