He was active in the 19th century. The family continued as silversmiths and retailers with Matthew West & Sons (c.1825) and later James West & Sons from 184. James West became the foremost jeweller in Ireland. West & Son participated in the 1851 Great Exhibition in London and also the Dublin Exhibition of 1853. In 1912 the firm relocated to new premises in Grafton Street, Dublin. West & Son closed on 13th February 2010.
