Description
A fine portrait miniature by Frederick Buck (1771-1839) on ivory. He was born in Cork in 1771. Frederick Buck was the son of Jonathan Buck and brother to Adam. During the Peninsular War, when Cork was a busy port of embarkation, his services were in great demand to paint portraits of the officers. He sometimes painted cloudy skies in the background to his portraits. Examples of his work are in the V & A M and a fine miniature by Frederick Buck is the collection of R. Bayne Powell Esq. dated 1788. It is in good condition with a small white mark bottom left. It measures 8cm x 6.5cm.
